If you have a case in the probate registry, the docket number will help for easier tracking. Once a case Is assigned a docket number, all papers presented to the court must bear it.
Docket numbers are not assigned randomly. They usually come with two to four digits, of the year the parties involved filed the first paperwork with the registry.
When you forget a case’s docket number, the probate court clerk can help you look it up. He/she will do this by entering the names of all parties involved, the case type, and the year of the first court proceeding.
